Governor Jerry Brown appointed Juan F. Garcia, to the California State University Board of Trustees on Aug. 13.
Garcia, 19, is a resident of Rancho Cucamonga and has been a student at Cal Poly Pomona since 2016, where he has served as legislative affairs secretary for ASI since 2017. Garcia is also a member of the Kellogg Honors College.
Garcia has been an Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) tutor for the Pomona Unified School District since 2017, a legal intern and Spanish translator at Tsang and Associates, and an intern for Gavin Newsom’s gubernatorial campaign in 2017.
Garcia joins current student trustee Emily Hinton and will serve as a non-voting trustee for the first year of his appointment.
The California State University Board of Trustees is the 25-member board that adopts regulations and policies governing the CSU system. The board includes two current CSU students that represent the CSU’s 484,000 students.
