Expertise:
Machine Learning, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), International Finance, Monetary Policy, Regional Economics, Economic Impact Analysis, European Monetary Union, Computer Assisted Learning, COVID-19, VirusCarsten Lange specializes in data science, machine learning and geographic information systems. Most recently, he used his expertise in analytics and computer technology to create a database that tracks the estimated number of active COVIS-19 cases in California’s 10 most populous counties. The database allows a user to see each counties trend of cases and gauge the potential threat of increasing cases.
As a data scientist, Lange has expertise in machine learning, AI and computer technology including neural networks and deep learning. Collaborations with Cal Poly Pomona colleagues include applying machine learning to the analysis of electronic properties of crystals, predicting Major League Baseball pitcher salaries with artificial intelligence, and pairing Google street view image recognition with deep learning to predict residential crime.
In economics, Lange specializes in economic impact analysis, money supply, inflation, and central bank policy. Recent projects include an economic impact study for the City of Industry, predicting real estate prices in Orange County with GIS, and analyzing California adolescent obesity with GIS, and an analysis of the European debt crisis
