Currently her lab is looking at ways to remove pollutants from the environment and use them as feedstocks in chemical synthesis for pharmaceuticals or making plastics.
The team is working to synthesize bidentate N-heterocyclic carbene complexes with first row transition metals and expand the scope of X-ray emission spectroscopy to allow for identification of small molecules (e.g. NO, NO1-, NO2-) bound to transition metal centers. Results of this work will be applied to understanding how biological systems, such as soil bacteria, reduce and capture airborne pollutants.
